Hello! My name is Rogan Quinn and I grew up in the countryside in Illinois. I have always enjoyed nature and a clean, litter free environment. I have been a member of the Longfellow community since November 2024. I have schizoaffective disorder. I enjoy going for walks outside as a form of exercise and had the inclination to give back to the community, so I decided to start volunteering with the city of Minneapolis to pick up litter. The amount of people showing appreciation to me for doing this kept me going. The amount of litter is alarming. Especially the amount that makes it down the storm drains and into our waterways before it is picked up. You also become aware of micro plastics being formed from the plastic litter. I am trying to increase the amount of time doing litter pickup to help prevent these problems from happening as much in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis. The spring of 2025, with the help of my sister, I purchased my first customized safety vest. She chuckled when I said what I wanted on the vest saying that an association could be one person. On the vest I had customized we put "Longfellow Litterfree Neighborhood Association" on the front, and "Please Don't Be A Litterbug, Help Keep This Area Clean" on the back. I spent the rest of the year picking up litter while wearing this vest. The late fall/early winter of 2025, on a desire to help make the neighborhood litter free, I adopted most of the Longfellow neighborhood through the city of Minneapolis's Adopt a Street program under the name Longfellow Litter Free Neighborhood Association. This held me accountable to create an unincorporated Non-profit association. For most of my adult life I have worked jobs dishwashing in restaurants. This past year I have enjoyed being able to move around more and having a job enjoying the outdoors while at the same time doing something that helps the community and the world as much as it does.
